Is Christian Ponder dating ESPN's Samantha Steele?

Samantha Steele, above, took over on 'College GameDay' after Erin Andrews' departure.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder confirmed he was dating ESPN college football reporter Samantha Steele in a tweet posted Thursday.
A fan asked Ponder whether he was dating Steele and Ponder replied that he was. This is far from solid confirmation; you could ask 1,000 ESPN viewers whether they were dating the attractive 26-year-old reporter and at least 700 would reply in the affirmative.
"I'm impressed," a woman tweeted in response to Ponder's declaration.
"I'm not gonna lie," he wrote back, "I am kind of impressed with myself too."
Steele replaced Erin Andrews this year on College GameDay.
Ponder has tweeted about the sideline reporter and host in recent weeks. In one tweet, he took a picture of a child's Cinderella costume at Target and wrote he was "surprised to see Samantha Steele." (Smooth.) Ponder also sent Steele a tweet that read "hello," but quickly deleted it. (Not as smooth.)
Two additional thoughts:
1. The hectic schedules and traveling itineraries of a professional quarterback and college football sideline reporter cannot make it easy to maintain a relationship.
2. I can't imagine dating a player could be good for the career of any sideline reporter. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with a potential Ponder-Steele coupling: She covers college, he plays in the pros. There's no reason to think it will affect her job at all. But perception is key. You know how people get with female sideline reporters, especially ones who look like Steele. The viewing public refuses to judge them based on their merits. It's unfair, but this won't make it easier.

Iconic 52-foot state fair mascot Big Tex burns up

Iconic 52-foot state fair mascot Big Tex burns up

(Reuters) - Big Tex, a 52-foot-tall cowboy mascot for the State Fair of Texas, went up in flames on Friday due to a suspected electrical malfunction, reducing the animated structure to little more than a charred skeletal frame.
But the man who gives voice to the mascot said Big Tex, which had been welcoming visitors to the state fair for 60 years often with a wave and a booming "howdy," would be back and all fixed up next year.
Smoke was seen billowing from Big Tex's head on Friday morning, two days before the close of this year's fair. Flames quickly engulfed its body and torched its cowboy hat, face, torso and legs.
"People are walking around the fairgrounds crying," fair spokeswoman Debbie Flatt said. "Big Tex is like family."
The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical malfunction that started in the figure's boot, fair officials said in a statement.
State Fair crews were able to salvage the mascot's fiberglass hands and belt buckle as well as its 3-ton frame, which is made of 4,200 feet of steel rods, Flatt said.
Bill Bragg, who sits in a room near Big Tex and gives voice to the mascot, told reporters that Big Tex will be back next year.
State Fair workers planted flowers on the mound where Big Tex stood to brighten the entrance of the fairgrounds through Sunday's closing day.
Big Tex debuted at the fair in 1952 after being purchased for $750 from the town of Kerens, where he had a different get-up and a different role as Santa Claus.

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake Are Married!

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel are husband and wife!
E! News has confirmed that the longtime couple kept us guessing for years, but said arrivederci to singledom today by tying the knot in front of family and close friends at the Borgo Egnazia resort in the southern Italian city of Fasano.
"It's great to be married, the ceremony was beautiful and it was so special to be surrounded by our family and friends," the newlyweds said in a statement to People.
Jimmy Fallon and his wife, Nancy Juvonen,Andy Samberg, Timbaland, 'N Sync alumChris Kirkpatrick, Biel's 7th Heaven sisterBeverley Mitchell, and Timberlake music manager Johnny Wright and his wife, Erika, were among the VIPs in attendance.
The festivities kicked off a few days before the I-dos, with those who had already arrived in Italy gathering for a casual beach party on Wednesday night and then piling into a caravan of cars the following day for dinner and drinks in Trappeto.
Private security was tight everywhere the wedding party went, while a source told E! News that the guests were asked to sign nondisclosure agreements to ensure that the details of the TimberBiel nuptials stayed private for as long as possible.
We knew this day was coming, though. Wedding preparations were underway and Timberlake, 31, had jetted off to Las Vegas and Cabo San Lucas with a bunch of buddies—who kindly provided the striptease—to celebrate his final days of bachelorhood last month.
Asked how the wedding planning was going, the 30-year-old bride-to-be told E! News earlier this month that she was keeping it together.
"I'm just pretty much cool as a cucumber in general in my life, so...I'm cool."
And we imagine that's just the way Timberlake likes her—although he probably appreciates how hot she is, too.

Fat teenage boys 'could be impotent and infertile later in life'

Weighty issue: Obese teenage boys have half the testosterone levels of their healthy peers (posed)

Obese teenage boys have up to 50 per cent less testosterone than their leaner pals - increasing their risk of infertility in later life, a study has found.
Researchers said the results were a ‘grim message’ for overweight young adults.
The study by scientists at the University at Buffalo in the U.S shows for the first time that obese young men aged 14 to 20 have around half the total testosterone than normal weight youths.

The same research team first reported in 2004 the presence of low testosterone levels - known as hypogonadism - in obese, type 2 diabetic adult males and confirmed it in 2010 in more than 2,000 obese men, both diabetic and non-diabetic.

The study’s first author Dr Paresh Dandona, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Medicine, said: 'We were surprised to observe a 50 per cent reduction in testosterone in this paediatric study because these obese males were young and were not diabetic.
'The implications of our findings are, frankly, horrendous because these boys are potentially impotent and infertile. The message is a grim one with massive epidemiological implications.'

In 2009, 20 per cent of 11 to 15-year-olds boys in the UK were recorded as obese.

The study included 25 obese and 25 lean youths and was controlled for age and level of sexual maturity. Concentrations of total and free testosterone and estradiol, an oestrogen hormone, were measured in morning fasting blood samples.

Dr Dandona said the results need to be confirmed with a larger number of subjects.

However, he said: 'These findings demonstrate that the effect of obesity is powerful, even in the young, and that lifestyle and nutritional intake starting in childhood have major repercussions throughout all stages of life.'

Dr Dandona said in addition to the reproductive consequences, the absence or low levels of testosterone that were found also will increase the tendency toward abdominal fat and reduced muscle, leading to insulin resistance which contributes to diabetes.

He added: 'The good news is that we know that testosterone levels do return to normal in obese adult males who undergo gastric bypass surgery.

'It’s possible that levels also will return to normal through weight loss as a result of lifestyle change, although this needs to be confirmed by larger studies.'

The researchers now intend to study whether or not weight loss accomplished either through lifestyle changes or through pharmacological intervention will restore testosterone levels in obese teenage boys.

The paper was published online in the journal Clinical Endocrinology.

'Emmanuelle' star Sylvia Kristel dies at age 60

'Emmanuelle' star Sylvia Kristel dies at age 60
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — At the time, Sylvia Kristel was worried about starring in the 1974 erotic movie "Emmanuelle," but consoled herself with the thought that few people would see her sexually charged performance.

That turned out to be wrong.

"I thought, 'oh my goodness, this is not easy stuff,'" the Dutch actress once said in an interview. "I was nervous but then my boyfriend said, 'Who's going to watch this film? It will never pass censorship.'"

It did pass the censors and went on to become a classic of the sexually liberated 1970s, propelling Kristel to international stardom.

Kristel died of cancer in her sleep Wednesday at age 60, her management company announced Thursday. She had been fighting cancer for several years.

Kristel told the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant in 2005 that her former partner, Belgian author Hugo Claus, had persuaded her to star in "Emmanuelle." The erotic tale directed by Frenchman Just Jaeckin examined the sexual adventures of a man and his beautiful young wife in Thailand.

"He said, 'Thailand, that's nice, we've never been there and anyway the film will never come out in the Netherlands so you won't put your mother to shame,'" Kristel said. "In the end, 350 million people saw it worldwide."

Kristel was born into a family that ran a hotel in the central Dutch city of Utrecht and had a religious upbringing. Her striking beauty defined her career, however, sending her into modeling and then to the steamy "Emmanuelle."

She wasn't even in the casting call when Jaeckin visited the Netherlands looking for a leading lady. He said when he saw her elsewhere at the casting agency he knew immediately that Kristel was destined for the role.

"When I saw her face, I was thunderstruck," he said in an interview with the French magazine Le Nouvel Observateur.

Kristel went on to star in several sequels to "Emmanuelle," as well as in Hollywood movies including "Private Lessons" in 1981.

Her agent described her as one of the Netherlands' biggest movie stars, with more than 50 international films to her name.

Among them were many erotically tinted films, including a 1981 adaptation — also directed by Jaeckin — of D.H. Lawrence's novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover" and "Mata Hari," four years later.

But moving to Hollywood in her late 20s, she sank into a world of drink and drugs.

"I wish I could have skipped that part of my life," she told the Dutch paper. She later returned to the Netherlands to live in Amsterdam, where she took up painting.

Kristel was honored in 2006 with a special jury prize at the Tribeca Film Festival for a short animated film she directed called "Topor et Moi," the title a reference to the French illustrator and filmmaker Roland Topor.

Jaeckin, the director who is also a sculptor and has a gallery in Paris, said by telephone that he and Kristel had maintained contact, calling each other every three to four months. But he said he hadn't spoken with her since February.

"I am very sad ... She was like a little sister," Jaeckin said.

"We started together ... 'Emmanuelle' brought us big problems. We were a bit marked," he said. "It was a highly controversial film then and now it is a cult film."

Kristel said she never regretted making the film, but was surprised how it shaped others' perceptions of her.

"People don't assume John Wayne shoots people and rides a horse on weekends," she told a Dutch interviewer. "People think I'm a nymphomaniac."

Kristel is survived by her partner Peter Brul and her son with Claus, Arthur Kristel. She will be buried at a private funeral.
